Contaminated Soil Treatment

Moved by the earth

Our treatment centres offer simple, fast and compliant options for managing excavated contaminated soils.

Englobe uses biopile, a biological treatment process developed in Quebec & internationnaly recognized, in all of its facilities.

It consists of creating favourable conditions for the growth of naturally occurring micro-organisms in soil that feed on contaminants. In this way, contaminants are degraded into compounds that are not toxic to the environment. Our treatment centres, licensed by Ministère de l’Environnement et de la Lutte contre les changements climatiques (MELCC), all use this proven biological treatment process. Once treatment is complete, the soil is reclaimed according to the applicable standards and a decontamination certificate can be issued upon request.

Building on our multi-million dollar investment in research and development and improved infrastructure for managing, treating and reclaiming contaminated and low-contaminated soil and various types of waste, we are guided by the principle that this waste can be converted into substitutes for non-renewable resources.

This unique approach revolves around our utmost concern for protecting living environments and our employees.  It allows us to tackle soil reclamation with a great deal of confidence. At Englobe, we understand that these soils, traditionally considered waste, can have real value as a material resource once decontaminated.

Fields of expertise

Since 1993, Englobe has operated multiple contaminated soil treatment centres. This experience has given us unique expertise in the biological treatment of organic contaminants. To share this unmatched expertise with our clientele, we have developed an IT platform dedicated to meeting our clients’ operational needs. This new tool provides our clients and MELCC, with complete traceability of all soils entrusted to us, from excavation to final reclamation. This includes management of the required authorization numbers, mandatory transport manifests, official weight tickets, the exact location at our treatment sites where the soils from construction sites are unloaded for treatment, analytical results from certified laboratories and details on the decontaminated soil that leaves our centres. All of these steps are followed, documented and validated throughout the contaminated soil management and treatment process.

When you choose to do business with the Englobe treatment centre team, you can rest assured that your contaminated soil will be handled properly.  Our professionalism, coupled with our rare expertise, allows us to achieve the highest standards. We offer a cost-effective, quick and definitive solution for treating your contaminated soils— with full peace of mind!

We currently have nine contaminated soil treatment centres that meet the needs of local and regional markets in Quebec. All these centres use biopile. This biological treatment process is quick and economical, making it an affordable solution for excavation contractors, real estate developers and industry firms. It allows us to work together effectively, from soil excavation and loading to delivery to our centres.

Once the soils arrive at our centres, we not only treat them through biopiling, but also handle their disposition and reclamation. This environmentally sound management cycle is endorsed by Ministère de l’Environnement et de la Lutte contre les changements climatiques (MELCC).

Each of our centres is specialized to meet regional needs. See centre details.

All our services and solutions deliver exceptional environmental and economic benefits.  We recycle organic materials and soils originally destined for landfills. We also mitigate environmental impacts through our biological treatment process and strive to remediate soils in an optimal way. In addition, our technical and economical approach often leads to substantial savings!

At Englobe we offer a wide range of integrated site characterization and rehabilitation services. This enables us to not only participate in projects in various fields, such as transport, energy, water and urban development, but also carry out exclusively environmental projects.

Our team of site characterization and rehabilitation experts focuses on supporting clients, involving the community in decision-making, developing environmental management capacity and sharing technological knowledge.

Our services:

  • Environmental site assessment (Phase I)
  • Environmental characterization (phases II and III)
  • Hydrogeological study: contaminant dispersion modelling, tracing test
  • Toxicological and ecotoxicological risk analysis
  • Hazardous and residual material inventory
  • Brownfield rehabilitation
  • Rehabilitation plan, certificate of authorization request, specifications, monitoring and project management
  • Environmental monitoring
  • Soil and groundwater treatment:
    • In situ: biopiling, biosparging, chemical oxidation, thermal enhancement, multiphase extraction, soil washing, multi-reactive barrier
