Material Management & Beneficial Reuse

Contaminated Soil Management

Moved by the earth

Our facilities offer simple, sustainable, and fully traceable solutions for managing excavated contaminated soils. We offer a holistic approach to divert contaminated soils from landfill in order to maintain a healthy economy while protecting the environment.

How it works

Englobe currently operates ten regional contaminated soil treatment centres. Our teams of experts have developed a sustainable, cost-effective, and fully traceable treatment method based on the use of biopile. This innovative biological treatment process isolates and removes from the soil any contaminant-producing compounds that are not toxic to the environment.

Once treatment is complete, the soil is considered reclaimed. It can then be safely reused by multiple customers - from real estate developers, excavation contractors, environmental consultants, and industrial and manufacturing companies, to municipalities and regional authorities.

Why it matters

Our soil management centres are founded on our deep concern for protecting the living environment and our communities. At Englobe, sustainability has always been one of our guiding principles. We’ve devoted considerable resources, time, and expertise to this area of our business over the years, because it matters.

With expertise and facilities for managing, treating, and reclaiming contaminated soil and other waste, our Englobe team understands that this material has real value for other clients and industries. By giving a second life to decontaminated soils, we’re helping to keep our communities healthy and thriving, and reducing the amount of greenhouse gases released in eliminating these waste materials.

Fields of Expertise

When using reclaimed (decontaminated) soil, it’s extremely important to document every step of the process. To this end, we developed an IT platform for our clients and government authorities, that provides complete traceability of all soils entrusted to us, from excavation to final reclamation. This includes management of the required authorization numbers, mandatory transport manifests, official weight tickets, the exact location at our treatment sites where the soils from construction sites are unloaded for treatment, analytical results from certified laboratories and details on the decontaminated soil that leaves our centres. Every step is tracked, documented and validated throughout the management and treatment process.

Our experience and expertise in this field should reassure you that your contaminated soil will be handled properly. To us, complying with the highest applicable standards is non negotiable. In fact, we’re proud to collaborate in implementing new and increasingly stringent regulations to protect our environment. It’s the right thing to do.

Another benefit of using biopile in our soil treatment centres is that this quick, sustainable, and affordable solutions allows us to work effectively with our excavation contractors, real estate developers and industry clients - from soil excavation and loading to delivery to our centres.

Our Englobe solutions deliver tangible benefits to the environment, our communities, and our clients. We recycle organic materials, divert soils from landfill, and reduce the emission of greenhouse gases used in their burial or elimination. Our biological treatment process protects communities and people from the environmental impacts of these contaminated soils – both today and in the future. And our clients benefit by obtaining useful, cost-effective reclaimed soils for their own projects.

At Englobe, our broad range of integrated site characterization and rehabilitation services allow us to work on projects in various fields, such as transport, energy, water, and urban development – as well as projects with an exclusively environmental scope.

Our team of experts is dedicated to supporting clients, involving the community in decision-making, developing environmental management capacity, and sharing technological knowledge.
